Fall for a Fairytale by Isabelle Taylor – Book Review

—

Quick Synopsis – Clove is no stranger to hard work. As a young fae, she woke up in an orphanage with no memories and a torn wing. Since then, Clove has toiled in bustling taverns, saving every coin to reach the enchanting Wingspire City with her adorable, feathered companion, Goosebug. Now, finally with enough money, she’s ready to say goodbye to her past and find her future.

Jayce, a charming and handsome orc, is currently on the run from a notorious crime lord he borrowed money from. That’s when he runs into the girl he’s been looking for—a fae who could pose as the missing princess. This con, and the huge reward, is finally in sight, but when Jayce stars to feel something for the feisty Clove, he knows it won’t be easy.

Clove has never felt so alive, sneaking onto moving trains and soaring through the clouds on a magical pirate ship. Despite her better judgment, she’s beginning to trust Jayce—he’s so certain she’s the missing princess, and she desperately wants him to be right, especially if it means one more night with him. As they draw closer to the castle and each other, they must confront the truth, the past, and the passion brewing between them.

Review – I feel like I’m about to be coming in real hot. I did not like this book. It was basically copy past of the animated movie Anastasia. You have an orphan girl with no memory taken in by a con man. The orphan girl and the con man travel together to meet her royal family. And of course, the con man used to work in the palace which is how he knows so much about the royal family. Can you tell if I’m talking about the movie or the book? Me neither!

I’ve read another book by this author and I liked it, but this just wasn’t for me. Again, because it felt like I was reading a fanfiction of the Anastasia movie. The book was sexy in places and there was some originality in the plot like sky pirates. Though even that reminded me of another underrated animated film, Treasure Planet. I found myself just skimming parts because it was just too much for me.

I’m going to leave my review short because I could literally go on.

Thanks to NetGalley and Ballantine Dell for the advanced copy, all opinions are my own.
