how can I still crave connection when the line has been dead for so long?
it’s like I hear the static crackle
nothing but white noise
and I still expect your voice to carry through
I long to curl into to you
to find comfort like a child
and yet the thing that echoes
is you saying you don’t know how to help
it feels like such a harsh rejection
couldn’t you have pretended to dry my tears?
we’ve spent so much time under worse false pretenses
this is the line you’ve decided to draw?
blank faces and glossy eyes
I wish I could paint you a smile
give you a dream
a treehouse of the hope of what family should have been
none of it turned out the way you wanted
I carry the scars of those drunken nights and slurred screams
maybe it wasn’t all bad, maybe there was good
but it still stings that you’d rather cut out your tongue than recognize my hurt
so, here I am still picking up the phone
still ringing the line
a fool or a dreamer, two sides, same coin
can you hear my call?
can you?
