lighthouse

i think sometimes you don’t know how to care for me
i am not calm waters blue skies
i am a dinghy on rough seas
sometimes all i can do is bail water out
patch the cracks in my hull
hold on to the mast and resist the siren call of the deep

the thing is i don’t need you to be a lifesaver
i don’t need you to reel me in
i need you to be a lighthouse
a reminder that there is a light in the dark
a path home
a way out

sailor, i don’t need rescue
just a beacon of hope
