Quick Synopsis – Tired of living in the shadow of her famous parents, Charlotte Ashford gladly left behind a life of glitz and glamour to pursue her true passion: becoming a counselor. However, when a viral video upends Charlie’s plans, she wonders if the real key to discovering herself is through her late father.
Grayson Keller has finally settled in one place, surrounded by family, and secure in his business. By his third summer as owner, Get Lost Lodge is thriving. Whatever happens, Grayson is perfectly content with his quiet life and careful heart. That is, until he meets Charlie, whom he can’t seem to get out of his head.
On the surface, Charlie and Grayson have nothing in common, but they can’t fight their attraction to each other. They’ve both been hurt before, and they’re not looking for anything serious. The solution is easy: they’ll date, have some fun, and walk away unscathed. Right? Or, maybe this once, they can see past the hurt to what, or who, is on the other side waiting for them.

Review – This is the third in a series, but you don’t really need the first two to read this book and follow the plot. I will say if you like this author and you like Hallmark movies this will probably be an enjoyable book for you. This was not enjoyable for me.
First, the book takes place at a fishing lodge on an island in (assumedly) Lake Michigan in Northern Michigan. Greyson, the owner of the lodge, grew up in the area. So did all his siblings who are also big players in the book. But no one mentions snow. Not once do they mention winter. I spent half my childhood in Michigan and went to college in the Upper Peninsula. I can 100% say I have never met a person from Northern Michigan that didn’t either love the snow or hate it. But the main characters never mention it! It’s a lodge and they never mention winter activities or how a ferry may not work during the winter. Part of the book takes place during Christmas and a person born in California, Charlie, would be very ill equipped to handle Michigan winter. I was peeved.
The characters themselves are fine, if a little too angsty for me. Charlie is a counselor and when a video goes viral, she loses her dream job. She’s also the child of a famous rockstar who died when she was young and a mom who is an actress. Charlie flees to Michigan to spend the summer with her Uncle Bernie, one of the last ties to her dad. Greyson of course owns the lodge where Bernie is living for the summer. Greyson is a divorced kind of grumpy lumberjack. He got the lodge in his divorce and has spent the last three years making in profitable, and he doesn’t want to shoot a reality TV show here damn it (this is a plot point shoed in multiple times).
One of my biggest issues with this book is that Charlie doesn’t like to share her parents are famous and keeps that part of her life very private. Alright, that makes sense. But when this part is revealed, everyone is SHOCKED. Here’s the thing though, Charlie’s uncle is her dad’s uncle. They would have the same last name. No one once was like of you have the same last name as this super famous dead rock star. Are you related? That never came up? He never talked about his life before Charlie showed up? Greyson says Bernie (the uncle) is like family. Well Greyson, you don’t know your family at all.
Look I didn’t like this book, but if you like the author, you probably will.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Marthin’s Griffin for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
