I Got Abducted by Aliens and Now I’m Trapped in a Rom-Com by Kimberly Lemming – Book Review

Quick Synopsis – Dorothy Valentine is close to getting her PhD in wildlife biology when she’s attacked by a lion. On the bright side, she’s saved! On the not-so-bright side, it’s because they’re abducted by aliens. In her scramble to escape, Dory and the lion commandeer an escape pod and crash-land on an alien planet that has…dinosaurs?

Dory and her new lion bestie, Toto, are saved in the nick of time by a mysterious and sexy alien, Sol. On their new adventure, they team up with the equally hot, equally dangerous Lok, who may or may not be a war criminal. Whether it be trauma, fate, or intrigue, Dory can’t resist the attraction that’s developing in their trio.

Review – Y’all Kimberly Lemming is easily one of my favorite romance authors. I loved the romance portion of this book, but I could have done with a little more world building. For instance, I didn’t really get a good sense of anyone’s age. I know Sol and Luk have been on the planet for 10 years, but what does that mean for their actual age. Also, Dory is a PhD student, but that could mean she’s anywhere from mid 20s to late 30s. In the grand scheme of things does this hurt the story? No. But I still wanted the information. Partially because I don’t love a giant age gap love story.

I also could have done with more background on Sol and Luk. We get a lot of good background for Dorothy. She grew up in Georgia and her mom wanted her to be a pageant winning trophy wife. Instead, Dorothy forged her own way and followed her heart to be a wildlife biologist. Dorothy really leaps off the page whereas Sol and Luk are a little one dimensional. We get more background on Luk as the story progresses, but I could have done with more info about their home planet and their histories. The only real lore we get is the story about their mating ritual and some lore about wars.

This was a fun read and I’m already salivating for the next in the series. Kimberly Lemming knows my heart and wallet are dedicated lol.

Thanks to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for the advanced copy, all opinions are my own.
