My heart is in the right place, but my mouth can’t always find it
My mouth stumbles, trips, falls
It runs marathons trying to get your attention
My heart is in the right place
But it’s often wounded by words that my tongue could not trap
My words lashing out, protecting precious pieces of me
My heart is in the right place
But it’s covered in my paltry attempts at repair
I have been ripped and shredded by the words and hands of others
My heart is in the right place
But my mind leaps in front of it to protect it from further damage
Taking my good intentions and turning them into cheap jokes or half concealed barbs
My heart is in the right place
I hope you can see it
I hope you can see me
I hope……
