Review – The second book in the series is pretty fast paced. We’re immediately thrown back into the aftermath of Veyka and Arran’s wedding. It turns out Veyka does have magic and is a void jumper. I’m glad this was resolved or at least acknowledged very early on in this book. It irritated me in the first book that they went on and on about Veyka being powerless, when really she had this latent power all along. I don’t love that her power had to be tied to a man/her mate. It only woke up because they were mates? Veyka don’t need no man.
After the disaster of a wedding, Arran and Veyka decide to go on a quest. They leave Gwen and Parys behind. We get a few more viewpoints in this book with both Parys and Gwen having their own chapters. I liked having the additional viewpoints so we could track what was happening in the Fae and human worlds. However, this book felt like the plot was spread too thin. Gwen or Parys could have had beefier storylines to further develop their characters and round out the Fae world a bit more. Instead it was just too little information with not enough pay off.
Veyka was so childish to me. It felt like by the end of the first book she was acknowledging her feelings and trusting Arran. But the second she has magic it all goes away. Her character was to hot and cold. It felt like too much of her character development was undone and then re-done. I didn’t love it.
I do still love that this is an interesting take on Arthurian legend and the Knights of the Round Table. However, this book could have been better developed. I did already by the next in the series, the main storyline is interesting enough for me to keep reading. I’m just hoping the characters keep their development and the story progresses a bit more.
